Standardized Cirrus Transition Training in southern Germany & Austria

For pilots/owners of Cirrus aircraft (SR20, SR22, SR22TN, SR22T) in Austria (Salzburg/LOWS, Innsbruck / LOWI, Zell am See / LOWZ, Linz / LOWL) and southern Germany (Munich / EDNX, Augsburg / EDMA, Landshut / EDML, Eggenfelden / EDME, Straubing / EDMS), Platinum CSIP Michael Hochenrieder offers the following standardized Cirrus training courses / briefings.

Cirrus Transition Training (Focus: VFR)

The Cirrus Transition Training was developed primarily for VFR pilots and comprises at least 6, or typically 8-10, flight hours. This VFR training program focuses primarily on topics such as

  • Normal Procedures / Aircraft Management
  • Engine Management
  • Avionics (Cirrus Perspective / Perspective+ bzw. Avidyne)
  • Autopilot
  • Automation Management
  • Emergency & Abnormal Procedures inkl. CAPS

After the ground briefing, the respective EFIS/avionics system is demonstrated and trained on the ground using a ground power unit before the first flight.

The feel of the original system significantly accelerates the learning process.

Cirrus Transition Training meets the requirements of insurers for official Cirrus instruction or a Cirrus Aircraft Checkout. At the same time, an EASA endorsement for “Differences Training” SEP (land) EFIS, SLPC, and, if applicable, TURBO is issued in accordance with EASA FCL.710.

Cirrus Advanced Transition Training (Focus: IFR)

The Cirrus Advanced Transition Training is aimed at IFR pilots and comprises at least 8 or, based on experience, 10-15 flight hours. The course concludes with a typical IFR proficiency check flight. In addition to the content of the transition training, the main focus is on the following:

  • IFR-Procedures (Departures, Holdings, several Approaches z.B. LNAV, L/VNAV, LPV, ILS, VOR, Missed Approaches)
  • Flight-Director & AFCS
  • Automation Management
  • High Altitude Flight (up to FL250)
  • Flight into known icing (FIKI)
  • Emergency & Abnormal Procedures

The Cirrus Advanced Transition Training includes all content from the regular Transition Training, supplemented by specific IFR procedures such as departures, holdings, arrivals, and approaches.

In parallel, a EASA PBN endorsement is issued in accordance with EU 2016/539.

Cirrus Recurrent Training (VFR & IFR)

Cirrus pilots should complete a standardized Cirrus recurrent training on a regular basis (at least once a year).
Individual focus areas can be set, e.g.

  • Avionics, z.B. new features after Software-Upgrades (Angle-of-Attack Indicator, FlightStream)
  • Landings, e.g. X-Wind, short field etc.
  • Mountain Flying
  • Night Flying
  • High Altitude Flying
  • Flight into known icing

Alternatively, this training can also be combined with the annual IFR Proficiency Check or a flight to renew the SEP/SET or IFR class rating.

For holders of US FAA licenses, the flight review or, if applicable, an IPC (Instrument Proficiency Check) is also carried out as part of the training.

Partner in Command / CAPS Training

The Partner in Command / CAPS training is specifically designed for passengers without a pilot's license. The aim of this training is to impart vital knowledge in the event of a Cirrus pilot becoming incapacitated (e.g., after a heart attack in the air). The content includes, among other things:

  • Overview of safety features in Cirrus SR2x
  • Basic operation of the autopilot
  • Activation of the Cirrus Aircraft Parachute System (CAPS)
  • Mayday calls

Preparation with Cirrus Approach eLearning & Cirrus iFOM

In preparation for the training, specific web-based e-learning courses (duration approx. 6–20 hours) are completed in advance on the  Cirrus Approach Learning Portal. Depending on the type of training, there are different courses, including:

Cirrus Transition Training

The Cirrus Flight Operations Manual (iFOM, available as an iBook for Apple devices) is used as the basis for standardized Cirrus training.

This Cirrus Workbook must be completed during checkout.

Upon successful completion of the ground and flight training, an official Cirrus Training Certificate will be issued, which can be used as proof for insurance purposes or during ramp checks.

Trainings Aircraft

All training courses are offered either on the customer's own aircraft or on a Cirrus SR22T G5 GTS.

Cirrus Embark

Buyers of a used SR2x (regardless of model or age) can register for the Cirrus-sponsored Embark-Programm program and receive up to 3 days of free training from a CSIP.

Upon request, Michael Hochenrieder also provides support with PreBuy Checks and Flight Tests.
